The Health Benefits of Sea & Epsom Salts

Salt helps to cleanse pores deeply, balance oil production and reduce bacteria that can instigate breakouts and acne.

Let's make this clear. I'm not talking about ordinary table salt. I'm talking about mineral rich sea salts and the Clayton's salt, Magnesium Sulphate, otherwise known as Epsom salt.

Salts and their benefits have been known for hundreds of years. But why is everyone talking about them now?

Instant (BAM!! YES!!!) stress relief:

The Ancient Greeks and Romans knew their salts! They both used warm seawater as a therapy to help them relax. This is now called talassotherapy, a word derived from the old Greek word thalassa, which means sea. According to Health-Benefit-of-Water.com, sea salt bath therapy provides psychological benefits and improves quality of sleep.

So if you work, have children, or pretty much live in our present day society you're probably under stress.  Stress drains the body of magnesium and increases levels of adrenaline. When dissolved in warm water, Epsom salt is absorbed through the skin and replenishes the level of magnesium in the body.

There are loads of studies that talk about Magnesium and it's effect on your CNS, in particular the production of serotonin.  If you find yourself tired and flat, magnesium-rich Epsom is reputed to be a friend of ATP (adenosine triphosphate - aka, energy people!).

I know that I have a busy lifestyle. I work 4 days a week in Aged Care, and JOURNEY is just getting bigger and better (PS thanks everyone for your support!). My adrenaline levels are still high at the end of the day (they're not meant to be).  I throw our bath salts in the bath at least 3 times a week and I really feel the difference!  I also struggle to sleep (and I may or may not be writing this blog at 0140 hours on a Thursday morning) - So I'm down for anything that will help me de stress.

Helps manage chronic pain:

An Epsom salt bath is known to ease pain and relieve inflammation, making it beneficial in the treatment of sore muscles, bronchial asthma, and migraine headaches. In addition, it has been known to heal cuts and reduce soreness from childbirth.

Helps prevent hardening of arteries and blood clots:

Epsom salt is believed to improve heart health and help prevent heart disease and strokes by improving blood circulation.

Increases insulin effectiveness:

Proper magnesium and sulfate levels increase the effectiveness of insulin in the body, and can help to lower the risk or severity of diabetes.

Eliminates toxins from the body

The minerals found in sea salt detoxify by absorption and the sulfates in Epsom salt help flush toxins and heavy metals from the cells, easing muscle pain and helping the body to eliminate harmful substances. Your skin is a highly porous membrane and adding the right minerals to your bathwater triggers a process called reverse osmosis, which actually pulls salt out of your body, and harmful toxins along with it. For a detoxifying bath, at least once weekly we recommend JOURNEY Bath Salt soaks for 10 minutes! Set your timer!

Himalayan Pink Salt:

Himalayan Pink Salt is loaded with minerals, and because of the wonder of our greatest organ the skin, we can absorb them sooooooooo much better this way, than if we just ate them alone.

Dead Sea mineral Salt:

This salt is derived from the Dead Sea, which has an extremely high density of salt in comparison to other oceans. Studies have shown that it can improve skin barrier functions, reduce skin roughness, and assist in the treatment of inflammation.

JOURNEY Bath Salts were tested extensively on our unsuspecting family and contain Epsom Salt, Dead Sea Salt, Himalayan Pink Salt, Natrasorb and essential oils.

Did you know?  JOURNEY Bath Milk also contains Epsom Salts.
